STAFF FOCUS: RK LG

RK LG has been with Common House as a server since we first opened our doors, and has recently taken on the much-deserved position of Maître d'.

RK has played lots of roles throughout the years — from leading a band that headlined at Strange Matter and Gallery 5 to winning drag competitions at Fallout to studying cosmetology in South Carolina. Most recently, RK chose to go into hospitality as a way to meet people they wouldn’t normally meet, and when Assistant General Manager, Lenita, reached out to RK about Common House’s hiring needs, RK jumped at the chance to come on board. “Common House seemed like a place that would embrace me — and I thought it would be fun if nothing else — so I said yes,” RK explains. After over a year working as a server, RK now says that they truly feel like they can flourish here. “People are genuinely interested in me, the things I have to say, and the things I want to do. I feel like I’ve made lifelong connections in just the short time that I’ve been here,” RK says.

And as for their new position, RK says that it feels like it was made for them. “Not only do I get to be more available to members and their particular needs, but I also get to be there for my fellow staff, and support them in a way that I wasn't able to before.” RK is adept at making members feel welcome and making servers, bartenders, and chefs alike feels appreciated and part of the team. RK explains that their new position allows them to really spotlight the talent of the staff and make sure there’s good work chemistry. “Morale is in my job description,” RK says, laughing. “I’m now able to spend time learning and adapting to the needs of the people around me so I can serve them the best way I’m able.”

RK is excited to keep building connections and community at Common House, bridging gaps between people who wouldn’t normally connect. “I love being with people, sitting next to them, talking with them. Creating that genuine human connection is super important to me,” RK says. “And even though I’m representing Common House when I’m here, I’m also embracing and representing myself,” RK explains. “And it’s seamless because I’m encouraged and empowered to do so here.”

Say hello to RK next time you’re in the House and get treated to their first-rate brand of hospitality.
