MEMBER FOCUS: Marc Paulo Guzman
HE IS: the Associate Director for Diversity Recruitment at Darden. Kuwait, the Philippines, and Queens are among the places Marc Paulo grew up. This breadth of cultures opened his eyes to the value of diversity—and some delicious dishes. With the kitchen being the hearth of his family, he loves connecting with others over a meal. And in case you need a food rec, Marc Paulo knows all the hotspots in town, including **cough** Common House 😉
HE FORGED: his own identity as a Filipino-American during undergrad, a process that allows him to relate to and serve his students better. UVA is also an outlet for Marc Paulo's creative side, where he choreographs large-scale routines for the Cavalier Marching Band’s Color Guard. For a spell, he considered becoming a music educator but decided to spin his way into a career in higher education.
HE FEELS: his most full self when he’s with others, learning about their lives and finding common ground. He values and celebrates what makes others unique. Having diversity for its own sake isn’t enough - it’s genuine acceptance, inclusion and belonging that matter most.
